On Saturday, October 18, 2008, Illinois attorney Brian N. Rubin was elected to the Board of Directors of The Special Needs Alliance (SNA) at SNA’s Annual Meeting in St. Petersburg, Florida.
SNA is the national, not for profit, membership by invitation, organization of attorneys, dedicated to the practice of special needs estate and future planning, disability law and public benefits law. Individuals with disabilities, their families, and their advisors may rely on the SNA to “connect them” with nearby attorneys throughout the country who focus, if not limit, their law practices in special needs planning.
The SNA is an invitation-only organization. SNA membership is based upon a combination of relevant legal experience in the special needs planning and disability law fields, direct family experience with disability, active participation with national, state and local disability advocacy organizations, and professional reputation. As a result, SNA members have an average of 18 years of relevant legal experience, with no member having practiced law in this specialized area for less than 10 years.
The mission of the SNA is to maintain a professional organization of attorneys, skilled in the complex areas of public entitlements, estate, trust and tax planning, and legal issues involving individuals with physical and cognitive disabilities.
While the SNA now has members in 47 states, the organization continues to limit membership to those who possess both significant experience, and proven credentials, in the area of special needs planning, disability law and advocacy.
Continued membership in the SNA requires active committee participation, attendance at SNA educational programming, and payment of professional dues. All dues are used to promote the overall mission of the SNA. The SNA is organized as a not for profit entity, and no part of the dues or earnings inure to the benefit of any individual member.
